Chap 6 – Keys & Analyzing

--

“Just a little lower…”

Terra lifted her hand briefly to her forehead and removed several salty drops of sweat, clenching her teeth tightly. She held firmly with both hands to the pole they had put together out of random miscellaneous things.

Robin was on the other side with his own half of the contraption, using all his might to help direct it as well.

The both had put together a device long enough to reach the keys on the other end of the hallway. The only problem now was lifting it high enough.

“Almost…got it…” Robin choked out, pushing as hard as he could to get it just right.

Just then…

Yes! They got it! The ring of keys came off its hook on the wall and onto the hook on the pole.

"Finally," Terra rolled her eyes.

They tried to now raise the pole high enough so that the ring would fall off the hook and onto the end of the pole and slide down it right into their hands.

And after several more grueling minutes, it worked.

“Yes!” Robin ex claimed, snatching the keys off the contraption. “Got ‘em!”

Terra, out of breath, smiled. “Nice. Now let’s get out of here!”

“Right,” Robin focused again and started mingling through the keys to find the correct one.

...

A half hour passed – nothing.

“Robin,” Terra stood up and walked to the bars of her cell. “We grabbed the wrong keys.”

'I don't like this...' Raven thought to herself in her head, following Slade down a long flight of stone steps.

Torches lit their way down what seemed to like catacombs. She had been blindfolded up until about a minute ago, for secrecy’s sake, so she had no clue where in the world she was.

Was Slade tricking her? Leading her down to an abyss where she would stay for the rest of her life? She was sure…

…she would just have to trust him.

“Why so slow, Raven?” Slade inquired simply, stopping from his walk and turning around to look up at her. “I thought you were eager to find your lover.”

Raven glared down at him. “He’s not my lover.”

“Whatever you say, princess,” Slade smiled slightly to himself as he continued down the stairs, not believing her at all.

"Keep your head on, Raven..." Raven whispered to herself, taking in a deep breath as she followed Slade further down into the unknown deep.

Finally, after another ten minutes, there was a metal door in view. When they approached it, Slade placed his hand on a panel to the left of it, waiting as it scanned and approved the information. The door then opened automatically, and Slade stepped aside with a gesture of his arm. “Ladies first,” He said softly.

Raven gave him a look before obeying and stepping inside.

Inside, there was a wall straight ahead with six or seven unlabeled doors.

Slade watched Raven carefully, seeing as she took note and analyzed every one.

“Choose,” He whispered quietly in Raven’s ear.

“What?” Raven looked at him in confusion.

“You must choose which door you believe him to be in.”

“You have him in a closet?”

Slade’s shoulder shook in small, silent laughter. “Not quite.” He motioned to the doors. “One of those doors leads you to a small flight of stairs. And those stairs will take you down to the dungeons.”

“And if I choose wrong?”

“You go home,” He replied. “With nothing but a pathetic story to tell your friends.”

Raven’s breath caught in her throat as she looked back to the doors. She closed her eyes and thought her way through:

‘Slade has me down here with nothing but a choice. So let’s analyze this. There’s seven doors. What else is seven? Well, seven is a divine number, but also unlucky. Therefore, they cancel each other out and the seventh door is eliminated. Now six…hmmm…well, six is not odd. `Odd` has three letters…the third door is eliminated. Now we have only five. Well, five has the letters in my name, Robin’s, Slade’s, the letters in wrong, right, maybe, and it’s also `yes`and `no` added up. Geez. However, it also is `do not` added up, and not `do it`. Ha! The fifth door is eliminated too. Four left. Four was Robin’s least favorite number. That one’s gone too. Three now. It has to bee the second door, because both 1 and 3 are odd, leaving two as the only number out of place! It’s the only option!’

She took in a deep breath. “The second door.”

Slade looked at her in slight surprise. "Hm." He looked back ahead. "Excellent."

Chapter 6! :)

OK! So, with the analyzing part. Raven does get as freaked out as anyone. Slade, from her experiences, was never simple. So why would he make it so easy for her to "sense" where Robin was? At least, that's exactly what Slade wanted her to think. THE POINT WAS THAT SHE DID OVER-ANALYZE the situation. But that's half the fun. :)
